The Invisalign Treatment Process
A series of clear, plastic aligners will be created based on impressions taken of your mouth. The aligners are designed to gradually shift the teeth towards their intended alignment, and each one is usually worn for about two weeks before you move on to the next. While your aligners won’t need adjustments, you will need a checkup every six weeks so that we can monitor your progress and address any concerns; in some cases, you might need to wear an aligner longer than originally planned.
Who Can Invisalign Help?
Obviously, Invisalign can help straighten crooked teeth, but that’s not the only orthodontic issue it can address. Depending on the severity of your condition, you might be able to use Invisalign to correct considerable spacing issues as well as common bite problems, like overbites. If you are interested in finding out if clear aligner treatment is right for you, schedule a consultation with us! You can also read on to learn more on the topic in the meantime.
Crowded Teeth
In short, it’s hard to clean teeth that are too close together. As a result, patients struggling with overcrowding can more easily develop gum disease, tooth decay, and other common dental problems. Fortunately, there’s some good news: Invisalign has proven to be effective at correcting mild to moderate cases! If we determine that you’re a candidate, we will move your teeth into proper alignment, ensuring there’s enough space for you to practice proper oral hygiene.
Gaps Between Teeth
A large space between your teeth can be embarrassing, especially if a piece of food gets caught in the gap. Even so, many patients don’t pursue the orthodontic treatment they need because they assume it will involve metal brackets and wires. In reality, clear aligners may be an option! If that’s the case, then we will use a custom series of clear aligners to bring your teeth together in a pleasing fashion.
Overbite
Do your upper teeth jut out beyond your lower ones? If so, you might have an overbite, which, like the other bite problems on this list, can lead to everything from chronic jaw pain to trouble chewing properly. Also like the other bite problems on this list, Invisalign may be a solution. In that case, we will use a custom-made series of clear aligners to gradually bring your teeth and bite into proper alignment.
Underbite
Even in mild cases, underbites can lead to teeth grinding and jaw pain, both of which can cause several oral health issues if they go unaddressed for too long. That’s why we recommend scheduling a consultation with us sooner rather than later! If we determine that Invisalign can bring your bite into proper alignment, then we will get to work creating your custom trays. By the end of the treatment process, you’ll love your smile and your jaw will be able to rest comfortably.
Crossbite
If you have a crossbite, then it’s important to explore your treatment options. After all, misalignment usually gets worse with time, and this bite problem can lead to several issues, including chronic jaw pain and premature wear and tear on your teeth. While traditional braces were once the only option, patients with mild to moderate cases can now achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing smile with Invisalign.
Open Bite
If there is space between your upper and lower teeth that prevents you from biting down all the way, you likely have an open bite. As you may have guessed, even mild cases can lead to serious consequences, like chips and cracks in your enamel, so we recommend getting the orthodontic treatment you need sooner rather than later. If we determine that Invisalign is an option, then the entire process will be metal-free too!
What are the Benefits of Invisalign® Treatment?
There are many reasons why adult and teenage patients tend to favor Invisalign over traditional braces. For example:
- The aligners can be taken out before meals or during routine cleanings. You won’t have to worry about avoiding foods that could damage your appliance, and you’ll be able to brush and floss as you normally would. It’s even possible to take out your aligners for about an hour or so if you don’t want to wear them during an important event or while having your picture taken (as long as you’re still wearing them for 20 to 22 hours every day).
- It’s very hard for casual observers to notice Invisalign aligners while they’re in your mouth unless they already know what to look for. Without any brackets and wires to get in the way, there’s less chance of your orthodontic appliance drawing attention away from your dazzling smile.
- Braces are sometimes worn for 2 to 3 years; Invisalign treatment normally lasts an average of 8 to 18 months (with the exact time depending on the individual case).
