Oral Conscious Dental Sedation

Patient taking dental sedation pill

This form of sedation involves taking medication before you leave your house to visit our dental office. You should have a friend or family member bring you to your appointment since you won’t be able to drive yourself home afterward. Once the medication takes effect, you’ll be in an extremely relaxed state, although you’ll still be awake and able to answer our questions and follow simple directions. You might even be drowsy enough to fall asleep. Most patients find that they remember little if any of their appointment afterward. After the visit, refrain from any of your regular activities for at least 12 hours so that the sedative has a chance to fully wear off.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation Dentistry

If you’ve received sedation at a dentist’s office before, you probably know about nitrous oxide (or, as it’s commonly known, laughing gas). A mask will be placed over your nose so that you can inhale a mixture of nitrous and oxygen. The calming effects of the gas will kick in within minutes, and we can adjust the dosage as needed at a moment’s notice. This type of sedation can be safely used by patients of all ages, and since it wears off quickly, it won’t prevent you from driving or returning to work or school afterward
